Desktop Remote is a Contextual Menu extension that enables you to control your X-10 devices directly from the desktop -- without running Thinking Home. Before creating a Desktop Device, you should confirm that you can actually operate it from Thinking Home's Remote Control window, since all the settings are noted when the Desktop Device is created. Settings such as the serial port to use, what kind of X-10 interface will be used, what kind of device (lamp, appliance, etc.) and other information. To create a Desktop Device, just drag it from a Thinking Home document window to the Finder. To operate it in the Finder, hold down the Control key while clicking on the device. A menu will be displayed, offering choices appropriate for that device.
